Using golf as a catalyst
for land improvement
The delta of the Chorokhi river currently has very few important breeding birds. However, several interesting species are likely to breed if the right conditions are provided.
Several areas have been identified for bird habitat and ecosystem restoration and enhancement. Recommendations include the construction of new mudflats, reed beds, bushes and areas of open water, these elements being the delta’s main important habitat types for migratory birds.
Restoring land, and making it available for others too
The conceptual design includes a network of public footpaths for running, cycling and other forms of general outdoor life. Public access to the river bank and delta, to bird watching hides and fishing/angling spots.
The river's north bank has been subject to considerable erosion. The riverside golf holes, holes number 2-3 and 17-18, may be constructed so they function as levees or floodbanks, preventing further erosion.
These golf holes can be designed specifically to form a protective perimeter around inlets of open water and other habitat types.
